Bright and early Saturday morning, two dozen Land Rover vehicles fired up and began their day. On June 27th, local Land Rover enthusiasts gathered for an early breakfast at Aristocrat Motors. The Crave of Kansas City food truck provided the a.m. eats for the group. By 8:00, a variety of Land Rover vehicles were lined up in the Aristocrat Motors parking lot. Everything from Moab-ready Defenders and Discoveries, to stock Range Rovers and LR4s. No matter what lay ahead, all vehicles were ready to go. Some Jeeps even tagged along (just in case we felt like pulling something out of the mud). At 8:15 sharp, the convoy of Land Rovers began their journey to Kansas Rocks Off-Road Park.
Once arriving at the park, we were given a safety briefing and divided into two groups. One group went on the easier trail and the other took on the intermediate level trail. Both trails required the suspension to be fully aired up. Technicians walked around and gave advice to the drivers on which 4X4 mode to select. The main settings used that day were Rock Crawl and Mud Rut modes. Land Rover’s Hill Descent Control (HDC), which brakes for you to pace the vehicle down steep hills came in handy.
The Aristocrat Motors media vehicle, a 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged, dominated the intermediate level trail with ease. Despite being equipped with street tires optimized for road performance, the Sport plowed through mud, climbed over rocks, and waded through shallow water without missing a beat. The Range Rover Sport proved its capabilities extend so much further beyond the occasional trip to the mall. There were some tricky sections on the course, but the KS Rocks staff gave drivers instructions on where to place their vehicle on the terrain. Every vehicle made it back without a single scratch.
The Land Rovers lined up covered in mud back at base camp. Aristocrat Motors provided a great lunch for the guests. Delicious pulled pork, barbecue, potato salad, and baked beans assured everyone left the day’s event satisfied. Over lunch, we talked about new Land Rover models and features, and how new technologies will make off-roading even more doable for everyone. Land Rover freebies were handed out to our guests. Fun was had by all on this day and we look forward to getting some cars dirty on our next Land Rover off-road event!
